Features of the APEX Airguns R10 Regulator:
- UK-Made: Designed and manufactured in the UK, home to the most demanding airgun shooters.
- CNC Machined Components: Crafted from premium materials for stable regulator performance.
- More Plenum Space: Greater efficiency with less residual pressure drop on firing.
- High Resolution Pressure Setting: Ensures mechanical stability.
- Easy Reading and Setting: Clear body and adjuster markings.
- Longer Service Intervals: Larger section seals for greater reliability.
- Adjustable Pressure: Ranges from 20-170bar, maintaining pellet speed and accuracy.
The APEX Regulator & Tune packages are designed to make your rifle more consistent and air efficient, not more powerful. All sub 12 (non FAC) rifles are set to around 11.5ft/lbs after any work is done, keeping you well within the legal limit.
As Well as fitting a APEX regulator and tuning the rifle we also engrave the breech block with RAT WORKS as a way of showing that your rifle has been regulated and tuned by us, this is free of charge.
When the work is done by the RAT Works the action is extensively worked on to increase the performance, efficiency, accuracy and overall feel of the rifle. Almost every aspect of the rifle is modified, changed or enhanced in some way. Below is a list of all the work undertaken as part of the tune.
After the regulator is fitted and the tune carried out you can expect a shot to shot consistency of single figures as soon as the rifle has been worked on. A report sheet will be sent via email once work is complete detailing the shot to shot consistency through our SKAN chronograph, the rifle is held correctly in a mount to guarantee accurate results. This consistency will improve further as the rifle is used.
PLEASE NOTE: We are not able to work on rifles fitted with aftermarket regulators other than ones we have fitted ourselves, they will be replaced and returned to you with the rifle.
Hammer Mechanism
- Ensure the assembly is free of any oil, grease or debris which can cause consistency issues
- Replace hammer spring with one of a more efficient design for use in regulated BSA rifles
- Polish the bearing surfaces in the hammer
- Hammer latch pin modified for use with new banjo pin
- Fit PTFE slip disks to reduce hammer spring torsion while cocking to aid consistency
- Custom made hammer weight & guide to minimize hammer noise & decrease strike time
- Generally, to benefit the rifle further the hammer replaced or modified.
Loading assembly
- Loading probe replaced with our own model for better airflow, pellet feed and smoothness (.177/.22 Right Hand ONLY)
- Left handed or .25 probes are modified for better airflow, pellet feed and smoothness.
- Bearing surfaces polished
- On older models the probes are modified to prevent issues when cocking with the modified latch pin
- Probe guide and pellet tray are modified for a smoother cocking and loading cycle
- Cocking is modified on early models to remove the need to pull the bolt back further when loading a magazine
- If you include the magazine with your rifle they are also modified to remove any loading issues such as jamming whilst cycling
- The magazine locating pin is modified to give a smoother movement
- Lubricant is added to parts of the assembly to allow a smoother action
- Bolt lock up mechanism is modified for more responsive and smoother movement, also increasing the rifles consistency.
- Bolt flip upon firing is removed or reduced with addition of a new banjo pin
Exhaust valve, transfer port & barrel
- The exhaust valve stem assembly is modified to run more efficiently
- Valve is refaced and modified for a faster flow
- Valve body is modified for better airflow through the firing cycle increasing efficiency
- The valve pressure is reset to give a better performance between heavy and lighter pellets
- The transfer port is modified to give more air flow efficiency
- Breech face modified to reduce wear on the pellet when loading
- Crown of the barrel re-cut the to increase the rifles accuracy
- Transfer port and barrel are aligned securely within the assembly

Service and Upgrade - Previously RAT Works tuned air rifles only
Our service and upgrade package is for air rifles that have previously had the Tench/APEX regulator and tune package. With a service and upgrade we will replace all the orings in the air rifle as well as applying our latest tuning formula and upgraded parts. We will often recommend this if the air rifle in questions hasn't been to us in 12 months or more.
On top of the main work that we carry out there are a number of optional modifications and extras we can also do while your air rifle is with us for work, these are explained below.
Barrel Options
Barrel Shorten - With barrels that measure 15 inches or more we can shorten them down to 12 inches to give you a more compact air rifle, especially useful if your using it from a vehicle or in tight spaces. We shorten all barrels from the back/inlet and won't shorten a barrel to less than 12 inches. Please be aware however, shortening your barrel will decrease your overall shot count.
Barrel Screw Cut Thread - This is only really needed on older air rifles that don't have a threaded section at the end of the bare barrel. If selected we will machine a 1/2 inch UNF thread on the end of the barrel muzzle so you are able to fit a moderator of your choice.
Barrel re-crown - With this we machine the muzzle end of your barrel back, to reveal the rifling and improve pellet exit from the muzzle. This is included as part of a APEX regulator and tune work so you don't need to select this option as well.
Carbon Shroud
These bespoke carbon fibre shrouds are not only stunning to look at, they are lightweight, perform exceptionally well and are extremely quiet due to the internal moderator incorporated into the shroud and our latest air stripper. These are whisper quiet and are a must if your shooting in and around buildings, livestock or near a public space. The different diameters are just as quiet as each other but do offer two different looks. The larger 30mm being the more popular one of the two, whereas the 26mm looks sleeker and better for low mounted scopes.
Buddy Bottle
If you want to increase your shot count even more, the larger capacity, carbon fibre buddy bottles are the perfect way to go. Depending on which bottle you already have fitted to your air rifle, will depend on which we recommend to upgrade to. If you have a 220cc bottle then the 300cc is the one to get if you have a 280cc bottle then 500cc is the way to go. We don't suggest replacing the 280cc with a 300cc as you don't gain much but you do gain more weight. Please be aware fitting the 500cc bottle will add considerable weight to the front of the air rifle. If you do go for the carbon bottle upgrade, it will also increase your fill pressure to 250bar, not the standard 232, giving more shots per fill.
Big Ball Bolt
We modify your existing BSA bolt handle and add a 32mm nitrile rubber ball to reduce perceived cocking effort and to add grip when loading your BSA with cold, wet or gloved hands. Please note, this option uses your existing bolt handle, it is not the supply of a new/separate bolt handle.
Custom Engraving
We can engrave either our logo or a logo/image of your choice, this can only be done on wooden/laminate stocks not on 'tactical' or synthetic stocks. We can also engrave on the breech block of the rifle if your chosen design is suitable to be engraved in a small space. We love personalising rifles, the more imaginative and meaningful to you the better!
